Hey Friends,

Today’s email will be much shorter than usual.

I leave this afternoon for Tanzania, where I’ll spend the next ten days visiting local communities and climbing the tallest mountain in Africa — Mount Kilimanjaro.

I wrote a detailed post earlier this year describing exactly why I am doing it, but for those that missed it, here’s the TLDR version:

  • Many regions in Africa lack access to clean, accessible drinking water.

  • People are forced to walk miles each day to retrieve water, and even then, it’s frequently from contaminated sources that animals have defecated in.

  • As a result, 1 in 5 child deaths under the age of five is from water-related illness.

  • So after climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and seeing the region first-hand, former NFL player Chris Long started a charitable initiative with a straightforward mission: “To provide clean, accessible drinking water to communities in need."

Each year, Chris and his team bring a group of current & former NFL players, retired military personnel, and clean water advocates to Tanzania. The goal is to raise enough money to install water wells in communities throughout the region and complete a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro.

The result?

Since launching the project, the group has installed more than 32 water wells in Tanzania, raising millions of dollars and providing thousands of Tanzanian residents with clean, accessible drinking water.

So that’s what I’ll be doing next week, climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro and visiting local communities in Tanzania to see first-hand the impact clean, accessible water can have on communities in Africa.

But before I go, I wanted to give a special shoutout to those that have donated and reached out with advice — it means a lot to me.

I’ll give a more detailed breakdown of the trip when I get back, including some photos and a total of the money raised, but we won’t have cell service for the majority of the trip, so this will be the last newsletter until Wednesday, March 2nd.

Thanks again for your support. I hope everyone has a great end to February, and we’ll talk in early March.

Here’s the full post from earlier this year if you want to learn more.
